From the moment I stepped into Mother Hubbard’s in Hemel, I felt welcomed—not just by the warm aroma of freshly fried goodness, but by the exceptional hospitality of Sharon, one of the standout staff members. Polite, patient, and genuinely friendly, Sharon turned a simple order into a pleasant experience, even offering a few recommendations with a smile that said, “You’re in good hands.” And my youngest daughter was absolutely spot-on with her suggestion. The food? Honestly lovely. Golden chips—crispy on the outside, soft in the middle—and the Dynamite Chicken Burger? Well, the name says it all. That kick was fiery but flavorful, enough to wake up the tastebuds without overwhelming the rest of the meal. The portions were generous, the quality was high, and the atmosphere was casual yet clean—perfect for a quick lunch or a laid-back family meal. I’ll definitely be coming back. Delicious fish and chips. The batter on the fish is always perfect, light and crispy, not too oily, delicious! Chips were also cooked to perfection. Best fish and chip shop in Hemel!

Great service, friendly cashier, food is amazing - great portion sizes at very affordable prices. Everything tastes so authentic and made with love, proper northern style stuff, not the overly processed stuff we're used to down south. Sausage and chips for £4.75, absolute steal when most places the chips alone nowadays are getting close to £4. Feeding a family for under £20 made easy. Definitely going to be going back.

Sharon, she is the nicest staff member iv spoken to in any restaurant!! We have the nicest chats not just about food but just life! She is so relatable, funny and sweet!! I was in there on my own and she just cracked me up!! Made me feel so much better on my bad day! The food is amazing I always go in or order from there when I can’t be bothered to cook. It’s FILLING too, my stomach feels so much heavier after😂really good all in all. Recommend to everyone💞

Amazing food and more importantly amazing customer service. A lady called Sharon served me and the customer service for a takeaway was exceptional. She was really helpful and friendly. I got the sausage and chips and they were really tasty!!! Defo recommend.

Absolutely brilliant fish. Northerners always said us Southerners know nowt bout fish n chips. Well Mother Hubbard's is there to back that statement up. Brilliant fried fish, Crunchy but soft batter and the chips are too too good. Great service to top it off also they do a fiery spicy battered fish.... yummy. . Only grumble is they only use haddock. Cod is not on menu.

Was inquisitive to try Mother Hubbard as the first shop was launched on the year of my birth 1972 - arrived yesterday for lunch with my BFF Megan - we ordered the meal deal of haddock; chips; drink and a side of our choice for just under £11 - (I chose curry sauce Megan chose peas) - waited inside whilst we watched our fish being freshly cooked - (decided to eat inside) - sat down and proceeded to sprinkle salt & vinegar over my fish & chips - dipped my chip in the best curry sauce I have ever tried - cut open the thick; freshly cooked Haddock - well - unbelievably fresh; tender; tasty & crispy - 10 out of 10 - can’t wait to return - yummy; yum yum. xx
